Schedule Backup

Backup runs according to a backup schedule defined by one of several means.

Backup schedules defined by default by your subscription and the service level to which you subscribed.
By a custom schedule you define, if you have appropriate rights.

You can use a different schedule for each policy. If you have multiple backup policies, each policy's schedule is independent of the other policies. Under Windows, your backups run continuously by default, but you can change the policies to run under a different schedule.

The Backup Schedule Grid

Using a grid that consists of hours of the day and days of the week, you specify the intervals during which a backup runs for the policy. An interval can consist of one or more successive half-hours, and can span multiple days. Unless the backup is continuous, only one backup will run during each interval. All schedules are run based on your computer's time zone. For example, a backup scheduled to begin at 10:00 p.m. will begin when it is 10:00 p.m. on the computer on which the backup is scheduled to run.

The schedules you set up do not affect the backup for your Windows System State. System State backup is an option for each policy. By default, the System State is backed up once per day at times defined by LiveVault. You can limit the number of hours between System State backups using the Options tab, but you cannot specify the exact time for the backup.

To schedule a backup

Click the Schedule tab on the Backup Configuration page.
If you have an appliance, specify how you want it replicated to the vault.
Specify when you want to run this backup policy.

Note: Automatic scheduling of backup intervals might not be offered by LiveVault.
Click one of the selections in the list to set up intervals when backup will run.

Click each square individually to toggle on and off intervals. Click a square and drag the mouse across the successive squares to toggle on and off intervals. Backup starts at the beginning of each interval.

Note: When you select your backup intervals, if you span multiple hours or days with connecting intervals in the schedule grid, only one backup will run for the entire span. If you need multiple backups to run every few hours, for example, select alternate squares on the grid.

The Schedule notation in the legend under the grid shows how many backups are scheduled per week based on your selections.

Backup with an Appliance

If you are using an appliance, you have additional backup options. You can back up a policy only to the appliance or to both the appliance and the off-site vault. If you back up to both destinations, the same data is replicated at both servers. You have the option to replicate from the appliance to the vault immediately or on a schedule you specify.

Important: An appliance uses a similar amount of bandwidth to replicate data offsite as backing up without an appliance.

If you are using an appliance, the Schedule tab displays the following extra options:

Option selected...	Meaning
Appliance only	The schedule grid applies to backup to the appliance. No backup occurs to the off-site vault.
Appliance and off-site electronic vault Replicate data to the appliance and the off-site vault	There are two schedule grids: one for backup to the appliance and one for backup from the appliances to the vault.
Replicate data from the appliance to off-site as soon as backup completes	The schedule grid applies to backup to the appliance. Data in the selected policy is replicated from the appliance to the vault as soon as backup completes to the appliance.

The Schedule Grid Represents Your Computer's Time Zone

The schedule grid represents the time zone on your agent computer that is being backed up. For example, if you select the square for 7:00 p.m. on the schedule grid, the backup will start when it is 7:00 p.m. on the agent computer. The time zone is based on Greenwich mean time, plus or minus the correct number of hours for the time zone adjustment. If the computer's date/time properties are set to adjust for daylight savings time, then the time zone reflects daylight savings time as well.
